OOI Dental in Melaka operates its own digital dental laboratory, with intraoral scanning, 3D printing and milling in the building. Because the work does not travel to an outside lab, dentures, denture repairs and retainers can often be designed, made and fitted the same day.
What is a dental laboratory, and where is it usually?
A dental laboratory is where dentures, crowns, bridges and retainers are actually made. Most clinics send this work out: your dentist takes an impression, a courier takes it to a separate lab, and you come back days later for the fitting.
That outside step is invisible to most patients, but it shapes the whole experience. It is why a denture usually means more than one visit, and why a broken denture usually means days of waiting while the repair travels there and back.
None of this is a criticism of outside laboratories. It is simply how the work flows in most practices, and it is the reason the number of visits is usually set by logistics rather than by the treatment itself.
What is different about an in-house digital lab?
At OOI Dental in Melaka the laboratory is inside the clinic. Your mouth is scanned digitally, the design goes straight to our own 3D printers and milling unit, and the fitting happens in the same building, often on the same day.
The digital part matters as much as the location. An intraoral scan replaces the tray of impression material, the scan goes to the lab bench as a file rather than a parcel, and adjustments happen while you wait instead of over another round trip.
The same scanning supports all four of our lines of care, so the records from a check-up, a denture case or an aligner case all live in one digital file that follows you between our two clinics.
Which treatments can be done same-day?
The treatments that benefit most are dentures and retainers: 3D-printed and immediate dentures, same-day denture repair, adjustment and relining, and Essix retainers made in-house at OOI Dental Melaka.
Not every case fits in one day, and we will not pretend otherwise. Complex work still takes the time it takes. What the in-house lab removes is the waiting that used to come from the work travelling, so the timetable is set by your case, not by a courier.
